The Inaugural Singapore Financial Bloggers Seminar

I am invited speaker

10 Oct The Inaugural Singapore Financial Bloggers Seminar

Roland and Yew Kin from Wealth Directions initiated this event and have put a lot of effort in organising it. Kudos to them!

How It All Started

Roland was inspired by a financial blogging event in the United States and he felt that it provided a relevant perspective to investment for the masses. Most investment seminars are conducted by veterans and professionals in the finance industry. However, retail investors do not have the same resources and abilities as the financial institutions, and they find it difficult to apply the information gained from these seminars. Hence, Roland wanted to create an event to get retail investors to speak and share their ways of managing money and making investments. He approached many bloggers and I am one of the honoured fellows to speak at the event.

Why I Wanted To Speak

I knew Roland and Yew Kin back in the days when Dennis Ng was still around and conducting courses. My observations and experience tell me that they always do things with good intentions. That is a very important start point. When they approached me to join this event I jumped on the invite immediately. I knew they are going to create a lot of value for the audience and I want to be part of it.

I will say the level of financial literacy in Singapore is not high enough. We were either not taught about money or were taught wrong stuffs about money. I do not know which is worse. But things are changing. There has been an increasing number of financial bloggers in recent years. This is a sign where people are putting more emphasis on personal finance and particularly important in a high-standard of living Singapore. I wish to see the day where Singaporeans are so financial savvy that investment scams do not have much business, financial advisors have to raise their standards to really do good financial plans, and fund managers are given real pressure to beat the market.

We know that trying to pick stocks can be very frustrating. Skip that frustration, get 21 ideas to finding profitable stocks in an instant.

It is opportune for our voice to reach out to more people. Readers can see the bloggers in real life and this social engagement can never be replaced online. We had a couple of meetings together and I can tell you the bloggers are as real as we are. We do not need to put up a professional image and say scripted stuffs that are time wasters to you.

About the Event

The name of the event is “Personal Financial Investment Seminar” and the line-up of speakers are

  1. Jared Seah from Singapore Man of Leisure. His topic is “Who Are You”. He believes that knowing yourself is an important step to find a suitable investment strategy.
  2. Calvin Yeo from Dr Wealth. He will talk about the comprehensive approach to financial planning and tools to help you track your financial health.
  3. Lionel Yeo from Cheerful Egg. Being an advocate for fuss-free investing, he shares the power of index investing which frees up time to pursue matters important to you.
  4. Alvin Chow from BigFatPurse. I will challenge the dominant stock picking methodology and share a better approach for retail investors who want to beat the market.
  5. Dr Tee from Ein55. He will be sharing how you can use a quantitative method to time the market low and high.

Besides these topics, there will be a panel (made up of the speakers) to answer your questions. We will also share some of our investment positions which is often an interest to most people.

We expect a crowd going to the hundreds and the event will be held at NTUC Auditorium. It will be on 17 Jan 2015 afternoon.

This is not a sales talk. It will be an info-packed session where you will glean many investment perspectives which are highly relevant to your situation.

The ticket is priced at S$16, but readers of BigFatPurse can get 50% off by keying “BFPFRIEND” in the coupon code box. The offer ends in November. If you know this is good value, others can spot it too. Grab the tickets at $8 each while it lasts! Click Here.

See you there.

You captured the intent of this seminar perfectly! The honour is mine to have the chance to work with you and other bloggers / influencers that came forward. Yes, it is a lot of hard work but I think it will be all worth it if we can help our local investors do better in 2015!
